A teaser trailer has appeared online for The Company Men, a John Wells film premiering out of competition at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 22. The story centers on Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck), a businessman who loses his job and goes to work at his brother-in-law’s (Kevin Costner) construction site, but the film follows the lives of three men trying to survive corporate downsizing and also stars Maria Bello, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, and Rosemarie DeWitt. Brilliant cinematographer Roger Deakins also contributed.
With a zeitgeist-grabbing concept similar to Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air, you’d think they’d want to separate their drama from the potential Oscar winner. Unfortunately, there’s not much to this teaser outside of a slideshow of short clips and soft music. I still have high hopes for this one though, and I’m looking forward to the reactions from Sundance (sadly, I’m banned from the state of Utah).
